Overview: This training session is designed to empower mental health professionals and clinicians with the knowledge and skills required to compassionately and effectively navigate letters of readiness for transgender and non-binary clients pursuing gender-affirming healthcare. As clinicians, it is crucial to provide affirming and supportive care to individuals exploring their gender identity and expression. This session will address key considerations, ethical guidelines, protecting the therapist-client relationship, and helping clinicians to navigate this process sensitively and professionally.

Learning Objectives:
By the end of this training session, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the importance of letters of readiness in the context of gender-affirming healthcare for trans and non-binary clients.
2. Recognize and address potential barriers and challenges that clients may face in accessing gender-affirming healthcare in Wisconsin.
3. Familiarize themselves with the legal and ethical considerations surrounding letters of readiness and gain insights into the evolving landscape of gender-affirming healthcare in Wisconsin, including insurance coverage and healthcare policies.

Who Should Attend: Community-based behavioral health professionals and students in Wisconsin, as well as allied community members.

About the Series: Improving Behavioral Health Services and Care for Your Sexual and Gender Diverse Clients: A Series of LGBTQ+ Educational Opportunities for Health Providers is a six-part monthly convening to promote greater awareness of the experiences of sexual and gender diverse individuals in the behavioral health care system to improve services. It is provided free of charge thanks to generous support from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services Division of Care and Treatment Services. Community Advocates Public Policy Institute will offer sessions once a month via Zoom and will archive the videos for viewing upon request. Sessions will be posted on this website's calendar as they are made available. Professional continuing education credits or a certificate of completion are available for those who complete the live or archive sessions and a post-session survey on session content.
