 \, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use dis
 orders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provi
 de initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or sub
 stance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.\n\nWhat 
 the Mental Health First Aid Course offers:\nâ€¢ Common signs and symptoms of
  mental illness\nâ€¢ Common signs and symptoms of substance use\nâ€¢ How to in
 teract with a person in crisis\nâ€¢ How to connect the person with help\nâ€¢ C
 ontent on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care\n\nThe course will teach you 
 how to apply the ALGEE action plan:\nâ€¢ Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
 \nânâ Listen nonjudgmentally.\nâ€¢ Give reassurance and information.\nâ€¢ Encour
 age appropriate professional help.\nâ€¢ Encourage self-help and other suppor
