 fy\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use d
 isorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and pro
 vide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or s
 ubstance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.\n\nWha
 t the Mental Health First Aid Course offers:\n• Common signs and symptoms 
 of mental illness\n• Common signs and symptoms of substance use\n• How to 
 interact with a person in crisis\n• How to connect the person with help\n•
  Content on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care\n\nThe course will teach yo
 u how to apply the ALGEE action plan:\n• Assess for risk of suicide or har
 m.\n• Listen nonjudgmentally.\n• Give reassurance and information.\n• Enco
 urage appropriate professional help.\n• Encourage self-help and other supp
