  understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disor
 ders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide
  initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or subst
 ance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.\n\nWhat th
 e Mental Health First Aid Course offers:\n• Common signs and symptoms of m
 ental illness\n• Common signs and symptoms of substance use\n• How to inte
 ract with a person in crisis\n• How to connect the person with help\n• Con
 tent on trauma\, addiction\, and self-care\n\nThe course will teach you ho
 w to apply the ALGEE action plan:\n• Assess for risk of suicide or harm.\n
 • Listen nonjudgmentally.\n• Give reassurance and information.\n• Encourag
