Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training


Location: Community Advocates 2nd Floor Conference Room, 728 N. James Lovell Street, Milwaukee

Community Advocates Public Policy Institute is offering a new round of Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) gatekeeper trainingthroughout the rest of 2017 for those who are interested in learning the warning signs of a suicide crisis.  The 90-minute sessions will be led by a certified trainer from Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee on:

 

Wednesday, October 11: 10:30 a.m. to noon; 1 to 2:30 p.m.

 

Wednesday, November 15: 10:30 a.m. to noon; 1 to 2:30 p.m.

 

Wednesday, December 6: 10:30 a.m. to noon; 1 to 2:30 p.m.

 

The QPR sessions are free of charge to PPI's Brighter Futures/PHAT grantees, MCSAP coalition members, the 53206 Drug-Free Community Coalition, Partnership for Success partners, City of Milwaukee Tobacco-Free Alliance members, and Prevention Journal readers.

11th Annual Family Unity Night / FUN!


Location: Italian Community Center, 631 East Chicago Street, Milwaukee

Celebrate the importance of family communication through sit-down family dinners. The Milwaukee Teen Pregnancy Prevention Network offers this opportunity to youth-serving agencies on Thursday, October 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Italian Community Center, 631 E. Chicago Street. Bring some of the families you serve to our 11th Annual Family Unity Night dinner; the agency only pays a $50 fee. This event is supported by Community Advocates Public Policy Institute, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, and Milwaukee Brighter Futures participants. Questions? Wisconsin DOJ Drug Take-Back Day


Location: Various Milwaukee County Locations

The Milwaukee County Substance Abuse Prevention coalition (MCSAP) encourages anyone with unwanted medications to dispose of them safely and securely so that they won't be misused. You can participate in the Wisconsin Department of Justice Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, October 28, when a variety of sites will collect your unwanted medications.

Even if you can't make it on Saturday, you can use the safe, secure, permanent drop-boxes for your unwanted medications at local pharmacies and police departments and select pharmacies around the county any day of the year, no questions asked. You can find all of the locations on MCSAP's website.
