Back in August, our Neu-Life FACT group had the opportunity to tour the Wisconsin State Capitol building and learn more about state policy. Traveling to Madison was really fun and also a great learning experience.
We talked to some people from the American Cancer Society and from the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Program. Being leaders of Neu-Life’s FACT group, we thought we knew a lot about tobacco and the dangers, but there was more information that was given by these people. We learned that there are a lot more FACT youth tobacco prevention programs across the state and how popular those groups are.
We also learned about the rate of tobacco use, how it’s decreasing rapidly, and that our generation has one of the lowest rate of tobacco usage. Unfortunately, the use of e-cigarettes is increasing, and these products are dangerous for youth. We also learned that other tobacco products like little cigars are taxed less than cigarettes, which is outrageous.
We were very privileged to go on the trip with our Neu-Life family and we learned a lot throughout the trip. FACT is Wisconsin’s youth tobacco prevention movement. For more information on FACT, please visit FACTmovement.org.
